I just read an article on The Vintage News that HBO is moving ahead with a reboot of the Perry Mason TV series based on Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels. Allegedly, this one, like to original Garner novels, will be set in 1932 LA.
I’m a huge Erle Stanley Gardner fan. He wrote nearly one hundred fifty mysteries. I have read nearly all of his works as I have with other top favorites Chandler, Hammett, and Ross Macdonald. OK, maybe not all of them.
Like other prolific writes, Gardner was formulaic, but Gardner varied the twists, skillfully called on his knowledge as a lawyer, and remains always entertaining. I never tire of reading his stories (or watching Perry Mason reruns on TV, for that matter).
Check out the article link below. Oh, the article does have one glaring error. Perry Mason’s secretary was Della Street, not Della Reese. (Cue the rim shot!) I look forward to seeing what HBO does with this new take on the mystery classic Perry Mason.
