The OSS and the Greek Operational Groups

Alex Vellis, right end, first row

There is more information about the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) Operational Groups and Greek Operations Groups every time I look. My father, Alex Vellis was in Operational Group 3 and his experiences were the catalyst for my novel Dig Two Graves: Revenge or Honor. Here is a link for a video about the Greek-Americans in WWI and their role in liberating Greece.  My father is pictured kneeling at the right end for the first row in the attached picture.

Operational Groups fought in every theater of operations. Eventually thirty teams were sent to occupied Italy, eight to Greece. Twenty-one teams supported the Normandy landings and the invasion of Southern France while a  number of teams served in the Dalmatian coastal islands, China, Norway, and Yugoslavia.

My focus though is Greece where my father worked with the Greek Resistance behind German lines from April to November 1944.
