Yeah, I know. Two weekly posts about writing rather than what I am writing. I’m not procrastinating- well, maybe a little.
I’m working on the fifth in my Mac Everett PI series, and frankly, I’m a bit stuck. In the fourth installment, Mac Everett was seriously wounded and seemed to be going away. I thought it was time to move on to another set of characters so I determined I would close the series with four books. Several people ask me for another Mac Everett book so I had to determine how to get out of the hole I had dug for myself. So therein lies the problem. How do I bring back a character I thought to kill off and leave? (No spoilers here).
With a strong plot concept in hand, off I charged only to find I’d written five and a half chapters with no action, no movement for the characters. It was boring. After serval rewrites, I have taken to doing some internet research and have been pleased to find lots of help.
My favorite post this week is 30 Writing Tips to Make Writing Easier by Karen Hertzberg on the Grammarly Blog. I had not looked at this blog previously, and I’m finding great inspiration from the various writing tips from several contributors.
